Position: Coordinator of Music
To enhance and enrich the congregation’s journey in faith by providing professional, appropriate musical and choral support at regular Sunday services and other special services/events.
Responsible to:
A. Executive Council through the Worship Committee for day-to-day job-related matters.
B. Executive Council through the Ministry and Personnel Committee for matters concerning conditions of employment.
Responsibilities:
1. As a member of the Worship Committee, participates regularly in its meetings.
2. Conducts senior choir practice weekly and additionally as required.
3. Provides accompaniment at both Sunday services and special services/events. Conducts vocal choirs as relevant at Sunday services.
4. Maintains choir library, including purchase of new music within the annual music budget approved by Executive Council.
5. Maintains professional competency through regular organ practice and also by attendance at professional workshops as approved by the Ministry and Personnel Committee. Registration fees and some additional expenses are covered up to the maximum stipulated in the Continuing Education allowance.
6. Meets weekly with the ministerial staff to plan and co-ordinate the selection of music for Sunday and other services/events as requested.
7. Plays appropriate music (preludes, postludes, offertories, etc.) and accompanies congregational singing, soloists and small ensembles at regular and special services/events.
8. Plays for funerals as required with extra compensation directed from the funeral home.
9. Is available for weddings. Extra compensation is provided (see wedding schedule of fees approved by Executive Council).
10. Oversees maintenance of organ and pianos, contacting tuners when appropriate and advises the Property Committee of any major or extraordinary problems or repairs of the organ or pianos.
11. Consults with leaders of other musical groups/musicians to mutually co-ordinate appropriate dates and times for their involvement in Sunday worship.
