The Light of the World

Gordon MacDiarmid was born in the city of Galt, Ontario, in 1878. It was here that he received his early education. Mr. MacDiarmid moved to Bracebridge about 1908 and joined the staff of George Ecclestone Limited, a local hardware store. He was a valued member of the staff and continued to work at the hardware store as their purchasing agent until failing health caused him to retire. During his long connection with the business life of Bracebridge, he made a wide circle of friends throughout the district. 

Soon after arriving in Muskoka, Gordon MacDiarmid married Helen MacMillan of Bracebridge. The MacDiarmids lived on Manitoba Street just north of Memorial Park.

Gordon MacDiarmid and his wife were very faithful members of Bracebridge United Church. Gordon served as a member of the Board of Stewards and as Secretary-Treasurer of the Cemetery Board. 

Mr. MacDiarmid died in 1948 after a lengthy illness.
